    So if you think Redbox or Blockbuster $1 DVD rental can compete with Netflix then think again. I would rather cut one premium channel and subscribe Netflix.

    Best LED / LCD HDTV buying guide for dummies

    Black Friday is coming up and you may be looking for a HDTV deal to replace your old big crappy bloated CRT television. Buying traditional TV was simple; you pick what size and brand you want and that’s it. But with HDTV it’s not that simple and when you have so much information available online, with friends and family, and all other places it gets more complicate.
    I would try to list some the important features of HDTVs you should look before you buy.

    1. 1080p native resolution – Look for the HDTVs which has 1080p native resolution regardless of size. With 720P and 1080i you would loss information when watching blu-ray and other 1080p videos. This is a must feature.
    2. Must have at least three HDMI 1.3 connections. This is a must feature. This will allow you to see deep color and lip sync facility.
    3. LCD w/ LED-backlit –
      LED HDTVs tiny light-emitting diodes rather than use conventional cold cathode florescent lamps (CCFL) to illuminate the LCD pixels. Because of backlit LED HDTVs support the local dimming function, it produce plasma-like blacks in scenes with concurrent dark and bright details as opposed to global dimming used in conventional LCD HDTV models. LED HDTVs are also eco-friendly, highly energy efficient and lightweight compare to traditional LCD HDTVs. This is expensive option for now and it’s not must.
    4. Refresh Frequency: 120Hz anything multiple of 24 will be good. You don’t have to worry about pull down/pull up things.
    5. Dynamic contrast ratio should be as high as possible.
    6. Response time should be as low as possible, minimum should be 8ms

    Now DLNA, Netflix, YouTube etc. options are good but it’s not must. I would prefer these options through PS3 or other blu-ray players.

    Best Buy and Walmart are for suckers

    All discounted stores local to your city like Best Buy, Walmart, Target etc. are for suckers, unless you work for them and get a good employee discount.
    Let’s see if you want to buy $1500 HDTV, you pay sales tax; for me in Miami it’s 7% which is $105. Also you need to rent a car (unless you have big one) or ask for friends help to carry these HDTV at home. Last but not least haggling with sales person who would try to sell you expensive insurance and standing in the line carrying this big HDTV.

    Now for the same thing you can order online and get free shipping, most probably less price, no sales tax, no standing in the line and no haggle with sales persons about insurance.

    So the best way is you first do research on amazon.com. See the reviews and short list few items. Next thing you can do is to go to these stores and see how actually they performs (I don’t do that I have enough respect for amazon.com reviewers).
    Now you look online where you can cheap online with free shipping from reputable online stores and pull the trigger.

    Now for insurance you pay with Visa or American Express. I don’t know about Master Card and Discover. They will extend one year warranty for free. Visa also offers very cheap multiyear warranty. I used it and let me tell you they are fantastic. I usually register with Visa Warranty immediately that way I don’t have to hang on to receipts and warranty information and you are all set. In case you product break call them and you are all set.

    I do buy sometimes from discounted stores when they really have very good deal.

    With amazon.com I have prime membership which you can share with you family members. We share with 5 people and it comes out $16 each. You can share with friends too but that’s up to you; all you need is birth month and day from them.
